This is a 2010 Deering Sierra Maple 5-String Banjo. Serial number is 01517610 N470 It is in excellent condition except for 3 tiny holes left in the fingerboard where 5th string spikes were once installed. I am the original owner of this banjo which I purchased from Janet Davis Music in March of 2010. I had the 5th string spikes installed by JDMC when I purchased the instrument (I have always used a Shubb). I got tired of retuning the 5th string every time I capod up so I installed the Shubb and removed the spikes. Much better for me as I never have to retune with the Shubb since the bands I play with are always changing keys. The neck and resonator have no dings or scratches that I can see. When I play I cover my belt buckle so I don’t scratch the resonator. There is a little fret wear on the first 5 frets. The neck feels great and it is a pleasure to play. The metal on this banjo is in great condition. The head is signed by Greg and Janet Deering. I got the signatures at a Deering Banjo workshop. I was going to change the head to make it easier to sell but the banjo is set up and sounds so good I didn’t want to mess with it. I play a lot and pick in several bands so this banjo has been played but it sounds great. No, it doesn’t sound like a prewar Gibson but it is very responsive and has a very good tone. You don’t have to play it hard to get good sound out of it. Also, this banjo is set up and ready to play. I am selling this banjo because I just bought my dream banjo and have to make up for the funds I spent. I would love to keep this banjo but I just can’t afford to. If you are a beginner or intermediate and want to upgrade, this banjo is for you. It is solidly built and made in the USA. It also comes with the original hardshell case. I can be reached at 803-646-1325 EST if you have more questions or would like to come see and play this banjo (if you are local). $50.00 for insured Continental USA shipping.
