I purchased this from the hangout a couple of weeks ago and it was exactly as advertised, but I didn’t realize how heavy a bluegrass banjo is. I’ve been a clawhammer player for 20+ years so I’m selling this banjo in order to pay for a lighter model.
This banjo is in VG+ condition and plays great. It comes with the Gold tone HSC, also in VG condition.
Here’s what I see as the pros and cons:
• Plays great with excellent sound and pop
• Sullivan bridge
• Fults tailpiece
• Everything works like it should
• The lacquer has been removed from the back of the neck. The stain and all wood is intact. Essentially the neck has had a speed neck job done to it. It appears to have been professionally done. This prevents your left hand from getting caught up in the heavy lacquer feel of the neck. I consider this a positive but know some may consider it a negative.
• The head has some wear as you can see in the pictures. Nothing serious
• The 1st 4 frets have some wear. Again, nothing serious in my opinion. It does seem to affect the playability but will probably need to be dressed at some point in the future.
• The back of the resonation has 2 very minor scratches. Otherwise in surprisingly good shape.
$550 including ground shipping to the lower 48 states.
BTW in the interest of fuul disclosure the strap is not included. I was just too lazy to take it off for the pictures
