Extremely rare Carolina Master hand-built in a limited run by Wyatt Fawley in 2004. Serial number 2004-13. The goal of this model was to match the exact configuration of Earl Scrugg's banjo at the time of the "Beverly Hillbillies" and Carnegie Hall recordings by Flatt and Scruggs. That means a flamed maple resonator, gold-plated tone ring, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. Yes, that monster tone that Earl achieved was with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard (not a maple neck as he currently uses). Even the inlays are consistent with the original "Gower" neck: Hearts and Flowers with no inlay at #1. The tone it delivers is consistent with the appearance.
The rim and tone ring were custom made for Wyatt to his specifications, and the craftsmanship is impecable - as per his reputation. The ring was seated to the rim using a special press (simulating decades of head tension and playing vibration), and the nickel parts were "antiqued" to take off the shine of modern nickel plating and give it that vintage look. The tone is open with that deep bass that tickles your tummy through the resonator. Read here for more info about these Banjos
