Nothing fancy really, just a very solid aluminum rim open-back banjo that’s suitable for both clawhammer and three-finger styles. Banjo is in very-good to excellent condition. The pot assembly was obtained from a 1960s Gariepy tenor banjo. The short (19-fret) neck was a ‘second’ purchased from Gold Tone many years ago; the peghead was modified from its original shape into something resembling a scaled-down Gibson ‘paddle’ style typical of 1950s style-100s, 170s and 250s. Also, the heel of this neck is cut at a relatively shallow two-degree down angle so it affords plenty of room for your right thumb to catch the fifth string if playing clawhammer. The straight-grain maple wood is finished throughout in a rich, black lacquer. Equipped with planetary tuning pegs taken from a 1960s Ode banjo, the banjo also sports a Five Star planet-style fifth-string peg from Stewart MacDonald, as well as a professionally installed Shubb sliding fifth-string capo. The banjo is equipped with a compensated 5/8-inch Sosebee bridge and No-knot tailpiece. Overall length: 33-1/2 inches. Includes a fitted TKL hardshell case in excellent condition.
The $395 price makes a tremendous value when stacked up against proven banjos like the Deering Goodtime which sport inferior hardware and and NO hardshell case. Don’t miss out on this one!
UPDATE 7 October: A FREE high-quality, heavily padded gig bag will be thrown in with the deal. How can you pass this up?!
