1925 Vega Whyte Laydie Style R (11 and 13/16 inch rim), 5 string neck by Wyatt Fawley.
Old Timey dream banjo! Here’s an oversized Whyte Laydie rim in excellent condition with a nicely engraved inlay maple neck by Wyatt Fawley. The neck was finished and professionally mated to the rim with the original dowel stick by master luthier, Glenn Nelson.
Neck is 26” scale with the Vega torch Inlay on the peghead. Tuners are 2 band V-2 Waverly’s with grained ivoroid buttons, fifth string geared tuner with grained ivoroid button. RR spike installed at 7th fret. Adjustable repro wire armrest and Saga No Knot tailpiece. Case is a period hardshell wood case covered in black tolex-some of the tolex seams will need re-glueing. Case has seen some action over the years but is still structurally sound.
This banjo has a big and deep voice and is highly suitable for clawhammer and OT finge rstyle playing. The 26” scale neck and the large diameter rim places the bridge toward the middle of the head for optimal sound. Set up of the dowel angle allows for a ¾” Sosebee bridge for maximum volume and tone.
All rim hardware is original but for the armrest and tailpiece. Original nickle plating is very good/shiny. Serial # 64938 stamped on dowel and inside rim.
$2750 with case…..Will consider a serious but reasonable offer. Buyer pays for shipping/insurance-actual cost.
