I have had this banjo for awhile now. It started life as an early 1960s RB250 archtop. I sold the banjo to a client who wanted me to make a 24 fret extended fingerboard, radius neck similar to what Noam Pickelny plays. I did the neck and because I thought the banjo was sold, I sold the original 5 string neck. The guy that I was building it for wasn't able to pay for the complete project, so I am in the process of sending him his neck and have put another RB250 neck on this banjo. The neck that I had was a later 60s neck and I didn't like the profile so I re-profiled it to my pre-war RB templates and finished it to match the resonator. The banjo has been fit with a Heartland 1 flathead tone ring and a second coordinator rod. I do have to say that the result is a great playing and great sounding Gibson banjo.
All of the pot hardware and 3 ply rim is original and in very good condition and it does come with a hardshell case. This is about as much banjo as you can get for under $5000. The throaty flathead sound rivals anything that I've had in the shop. A couple of the Canadian folks that were at Thomas Point Beach this years were amazed at this banjo and one of them was playing a style 11 that I did for him last year.
