I have a 1926/27 Gibson style 1 "shoe-and-bracket" conversion banjo that has had the full-thickness rim turned and one-piece flange added by Arthur Hatfield. The full-thickness rim was also cut for a Huber HR-30 20 hole tone ring that is nickel-plated. This banjo also has a mismatch of a 1927 resonator (that has been re-finished) and is double-bound. The rim is a 1926 that came from a style 1 shoe-and-bracket banjo. The rim is full-thickness, and has the original "Gibson" label (when the tone ring was added, the label was partially cut. The rim has two co-ordinator rods both pre-war with the lower one being smaller diameter, and original to the rim. The tension hoop, hooks, nuts, brackets, armrest, and the remainder of the hardware is newer nickel-plated items with the exception of the tailpiece...which is a pre-war Presto that has been drilled for the fifth string (hole is hidden by the tailpiece cover). A new (two months old) Arthur Hatfield conversion five-string neck has been added. Made with mahogany, rosewood fingerboard, style 1 "Bats-and-wings" inlay on a radius fingerboard with 12" radius. Peghead features a inverted tulip and horizontal "Gibson" script with rosewood peghead overlay. The neck has a V-profile that is slim as well...this profile continues from frets 1-5, and continues from there until about the 10th fret at a reduced profile. The peghead is double-cut. The tuners are the Krishot (Grover repros), and the fifth peg is a five-star, all tuners have ivoroid buttons. The banjo also features Hopper's cam d-tuners (handmade by Danny Hoppers). These are some of the smoothest d-tuners made! Arthur made the peghead a touch wider for the cam tuners. The resonator has been changed from 3 lug to 4 lug, is double-bound with original binding but re-finished by Arthur Hatfield, and has a very nice figure in the maple grain. The banjo has a great growl with plenty of volume and even tone up-and-down the neck. Great banjo, but I have another great conversion that Arthur did for me as well, and I need to take care of some things around my home...so, I need the cash from the sale of this banjo. This banjo will come with an inexpensive older hardshell case. I have a Calton for it now, but that one will not be sold. Boyz...it's a great one, and I'm sure you will be pleased! When I'm able I will try and build another one like this one...it has it ALL!
