Selling a 19th Century Minstrel banjo purchased from Elderly Instruments almost three years ago. Elderly told me it was 1850-1880's. They handled the setup and sold it on consignment. The neck appears to be maple with with inlaid frets that appear to be bone or ivory. The star and heart inlays on the neck are a metal that looks like brass. The pot is made of oak, almost like the old grain measures you see in antique stores. It appears to be a natural skin that is rather thick and in tact. The pegs are wooden and it stays in tune exceptionally well. There aren't any markings on the instrument that would give a clue to it's maker. The box is 13 inches and has a mellow sound with the nylon strings. It's a beautiful instrument for those that appreciate the "old" sound and would treasure a unique 150 year old instrument. I have too many banjos and it's time to get down to a more manageable number. No case included. I've kept it in a soft case purchased from Elderly that works fine. Shipping is free.
