This 1964 Vega Model Earl Scruggs 5 String Bluegrass banjo has been in my collection and has seen very little use. It was purchased from the family of the deceased original owner. In 1975 the banjo developed a problem with the neck and the original owner took it back to Schafer Music Store in Mt. Plesant, MI to have it repaired under warranty. Vega was taken over by C.F.Martin guitar company in 1970 but still honored warranty issues for previous banjo sales. Martin took the banjo and replaced the whole neck with its newer style neck and re-installed the original Scruggs De-tuners form the 1964 neck. But what is truely unique is that C. F. Martin installed the Grover Rotomatic guitar tuners that were usually only seen on the Vega Pete Seger model banjo on this new neck. They work great on the banjo. This banjo also has the seldom seen Waverly tailpiece with the "VEGA" name engraved on it. Railroad spikes were insalled on the 7,8, and 9th frets. The frets show no wear at all. This really nice Vega has seen very little use as the pictures show. Included in this sale is the paperwork from C.F.Martin and Schafer Music Store concerning the neck replacement and is shown in the attached pictures. Included also is the original head tightening wrench and allen wrench for adjusting the neck angle. The original case is worn but still in very good functiional condition. A Vega collector is going to love this banjo. Serial number on this banjo is A-12205 and appears on the original Vega yellow label on the wood rim. $1900.00 or best offer.
