Serial #6510-XX (early 50s)
Very good overall condition. It has some cosmetic issues, as most 60 year old banjos that have actually been played. Most, if not all, will be clearly visible in the pics. If you are not sure about something, or just need more info or pics, please feel free to contact me.
The non original parts (to my knowledge) are:
1) Tension hoop pictured is chrome - (since replaced with a nickel plated hoop)
2) Geared 5th string tuner (common)
3) New Remo frosted head - (low crown)
The neck is shimmed for lower action. There is some fret and board wear at the first 4 positions. It plays fine for me as-is though, with no buzzing. A small piece of neck binding is missing. Has one pretty good ding on the back of the neck. There is normal finish checking, especially on the resonator. At one time, the banjo had cam-style D tuners installed. It also had a Shubb sliding capo that has been removed, but it can be included in the sale at no additional cost.
These old banjos sound mighty fine to me with just the original tone hoop, but the option of adding a tone ring is always there.
