Here is simply the best bang-for-the-buck value for an open back for old time music.
The Bob Carlin series banjos by Gold Tone were designed with Bob's signature deep, throaty tone in mind. Here's the hype from the Gold Tone website:
"Following the success of the Bob Carlin models, the BC-350 and BC-350+, Gold Tone introduced a new brother, the BC-120. This economically priced version of the BC line has many of the features of its costlier relative such as the 12" rim and rolled brass tone ring for increased mid-range and bass response, a fingerboard scoop to play over the neck for a deeper tone, a wider fingerboard to facilitate drop thumb, a "hot-dog" vintage-style armrest, Renaissance banjo head, and No Knot tailpiece. Other features exclusive to this model include the dual coordinator rod configuration, rosewood fingerboard, bone nut, and geared tuners. For those that want to get into a 12" banjo at the beginner price, the BC-120 is for you."
This banjo has been lightly played and is in excellent condition, with a few dings and marks here and there as would be expected. It is not mint, but it is not thrashed in any way... the photos show you everything clearly.
Please see the "Discussion URL" to see a video of Bob Carlin playing one of these instruments.
And the "More information" URL has another example of one being played.
These retail for $700, and you can get them new for $600... at $350 it's truly the best higher quality beginning to intermediate open back banjo you'll find.
These also come with a gig bag that is, for some unfathomable reason, just a bit too small for the instrument. I replaced it with another, slightly larger one, and it comes with the banjo. To be clear, the original and this one are both simple nylon bags without any structure or protection.
Please feel free to PM me with questions.
