Lightly used and about 9 months old or so. I got this one in a trade a few months back. I have jammed, performed, and recorded with this banjo. As a jamming banjo it will hold it's own with the big boys (Huber, Gibson, Stelling, Deering, etc.) As a performing banjo it cuts through a mic extremely well (as well as any banjo I have owned.) This banjo sounds best recorded. Listen to my audio files "Little Maggie" and "Green Mountain Hop" (make sure it says Nechville Vintage model...) and see for yourself.
The sound is refined, not brash and mellow but in a powerful way (as some reviews here on the hangout say.) It falls between a Gibson sound and a Deering sound to my ear but these banjos have a variety of voices. It also sounds good played in the clawhammer style and I can provide audio clips of me playing in that style if you wish.
This banjo has Nechville's very advanced "rolling rim" system and the pro 20 hole tone ring. The fingerboard is radiused and is a dream to play--one of the easiest banjos to play that I have owned.
One minor ding--I must not have had the wrench in the whole way when I tightened the head and I bent the wrench (Nechville sells them for about $15 and I messed up two threads. This will not affect adjustability as these two threads can be easily bypassed.
All wrenches, adjustment tools, and owner's manual will be included in the Guardian Hardshell case that comes with the banjo.
