When the Samuel S. Stewart Company marketed this banjo back around 1890, it was one of their most expensive banjos, selling for $ 60.00! The MOP enlay is wonderful. The banjo features a 13 inch silver spun over pot, calf-skin head, a 26 1/2 inch scale, 5/8 bridge, 1/8 of an inch action at the 12 th fret, a brass tone ring and the original celluloid tuners. The banjo has a deep mellow tone. The banjo's serial number (8740) suggests it was made sometime between 1890-94. Please note that when I had a new calf-skin head installed a local music shop, the man wrapped a decades old tiny crack in the dowel stick with glued twine. The banjo will be well packaged, insured, and shipped in the older hard shelled case pictured. This banjo is SOLD and awaiting final payment.
