John Farris was an instrument maker in Hartford Conn in the late 1800s. This banjo features a highly engraved 10 inch pot, open back. In recent history the pot was fitted to a 22 inch , fretless neck. The neck itself is hardwood but the fret board surface appears to be ebony, about 1/4 inch or slightly more thick. I was always confused if this work was done by the Bernunzio Uptown Music in Rochester, or if the prior owner bought the banjo as configured from Bernunzio.
Note: somehow in the upload the photos got reversed or flipped. It looks like the frailing cutout is for a left handed player, but it is not. This banjo is for a right handed player. Also the engraved pot with the name John Farris flipped upside down..I will try to correct this but for now you get the idea.
It is a nice small, fretless five string and comes with a full sized case.
