This is a 1927 Gibson TB-1 banjo serial number 8426-33. Original rim, tone ring ( brass hoop ), flange, bracket shoes and resonator.
It was a tenor 17 frets banjo but the neck had serious playing grooves and wear. It is included as part of authenticity.
New curly maple one piece neck with ebony head stock veneer and heel cap. Rosewood Fingerboard, gold mother of pearl Logo and white mother of pearl dots.
A 2 way adjustable truss rod is accessible by the neck heel to preserve the original neck style and to allow neck relief adjustments.
Neck is 26 3/16 inches scale. width at the nut is 1 5/16 inch and 1 15/16 inch at the heel. Action is 1/8 of an inch at the last fret.
The Grover tuners works fine and the fifth string tuner is a straight post geared Waverly.
Ottinger style adjustable tension tailpiece .
Nickel plated armrest.
The Original resonator had to be re finish because of deep scratches, missing varnish and small area of wood delamination. It's been repaired re finished with 8 coats of lacquer.
The remo head is about 20 years old but in very good shape with only a small spot of missing frosting finish.
Bone nuts, Maple/ebony straight bridge, D'addario medium gauge strings.
New nickel plated steel tension hooks and nickel plated brass tension nuts.
The actual weight is 8 pounds.
This banjo has a lot of punch, a good sustain and a sound that only a pre war Gibson can deliver.
The rim is untouched except for the 2 bracket shoes ( on both sides of the neck notch of the tension hoop ) that had to be move 1/4 inch aside to give room for the wider neck.
