Beautiful 1927 Ludwig Ace top-tension plectrum banjo. Re-necked at some point with perloid fingerboard with colorful contrasting position markers. Gold-plated metalwork, including pancake tuners and original tailpiece. Fancy heel carving and marquetry all over rim and resonator. Non-original hard shell case. The Ace model was the middle of the Ludwig line, but might have been the most aesthetically pleasing of the lot -- fancier than the "plain Jane" Kingstons, Bellevues, etc., but more tasteful/less gaudy than the Chiefs, etc. This one has a beautiful clear tone and plays just as smooth. Purchased a couple years ago from John Bernunzio in Rochester, NY, who established its provenance, but never got the chance to play as much plectrum as I'd planned, and now would like to acquire a good 5-string bluegrass banjo instead.
