Up for sale is my Wayne Fairchild 5-String Banjo. The banjo is of high quality and in very good condition. I have written a snail mail letter to Mr Fairchild and here is the information he provided about this banjo.
It is one of his early units built between 1970 & 1980. He only built 25 - 30 of them during this period of time. He did not start to number them until 1980-1981 so it's hard to know what number this one is. This banjo is made out of cherry and maple and has a wooden rim. The tonering is a 60-60 Concast Bronze and all the brightwork parts are the same ones used on the Great Lakes Banjos and purchased from them. It has dual coordinator rods and an adjustable truss rod. The tuners are Five Star Planet on the 1st, 4th & 5th strings and Keith tuners on the 2nd & 3rd strings. I'm not sure what type the tailpiece is but the chrome is discolored although it is solid.
I recently purchased this banjo with the intention of keeping it and selling my Deering Calico. This Fairchild sounds and plays beautifully but I've opted to keep the Deering for personal reasons and not based on sound or quality. I have put more money into the Fairchild since buying it so you will be getting a top notch instrument if you decide to purchase. It comes with a hard shell case and cradle type strap. Please review the pictures and ask any questions you may have about it. I am open to reasonable offers.
