I purchased an open-back banjo on ebay that appears to be a product of various parts. The listing said it had an old vega rim. That's doubtful as there is no dowel stick (although there is a coordinator rod) and no markings on the rim. I do however, think the tone ring may be a Whyte Laydie, as it is scalloped. I believe the neck is maple and the headstock has a mule in it (which I guess could make a statement about the banjo or the player!). All that to say that the sum of all it's parts is an easy playing, nice sounding banjo. Because I am not a professional and i want to provide full disclosure on the instrument, please see the original ebay ad at http://www.ebay.com/itm/200696483486?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
If you have an entire open back banjo attached to a Tony Pass rim, and you're interesed in my banjo as a partial trade, let's talk!
