"Made in the 1890's in Philadelphia, this banjo appears to be in excellent, original condition except the ivory rosette that is missing from the tailpiece. It is considered a "lady's banjo" with 10" spunover rim and a 24" scale length. The neck is constructed of cherry with an ebony fingerboard. It has Grade 3 appointments including mother of pearl inlay throughout the peg head and fingerboard; ornate floral heel carving; ivoroid twist tuners with Handel style inlays and square button shape; and a common sense tailpiece. This banjo has a current market value of $2000." Quoted from letter of appraisal dated 9-19-12 from John Bernunzio of Bernunzio Uptown Music, 122 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14604.
