I just received this banjo in from one of my clients. It is an excellent to near-mint condition 2004 Gibson Granada, complete with all paperwork, hanger tag, and original case. The banjo has two Kieth D tuners and is missing the two original tuners that they replaced. Shouldn't be hard to find two originals if you wanted to go back to non D tuners.
Some of you may be familiar with this run of "Vintage" Granadas. They were great banjos with one exception. In order to get that vintage look, Gibson had all the hardware copper flashed then lightly gold plated so that the coppery color showed through the gold. Kind of a nice look, but the plating didn't hold up well at all. Combine that with the fact that this owner was sold a product that was warranted to protect that nice gold hardware by some pitchman at the Alaska State Fair. Anyway, after applying that product and it taking much of the gold of the hardware, he sent me his banjo a couple of years ago for a complete set-up and asked me to have the hardware re-plated. I sent all of the hardware except the tuners to Steve Huber for his triple gold plating and light antiquing. The result of the plating and the set-up came out very nice. This banjo is a professional grade Gibson Granada with real gold plating that should last a lifetime and a sound that anyone will love. I did also dress the frets when it was here before and they have very little wear. It has a very nice, low, fast action. The case is well used but original to the banjo and serviceable, and from the looks of the banjo, did a good job of protecting it.
If you've always wanted a nice Gibson Granada, you realize that they are not being made any longer. You need to find a nice used one and pay the price to get it. I guarantee this one will make you happy...Bill
