This was my first banjo purchase and it is a fine first banjo for someone just starting out. I've matured a bit and now own an OME openback. I could tell you about the maple resonator, inlays, etc., but you probably already know this. It would be a very good (and inexpensive) way for someone who isn't quite sure if a banjo is in their future (or not) to buy a competent instrument to get started with (like I did). This banjo retails new for around $650, so it is significantly discounted. It plays well and loud, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It would make a fine first instrument for someone just starting.
