WTT Kasuga Plectrum banjo for Tenor
I bought this Kasuga Plectrum a month or so ago, and found that I prefer to play tenor rather than plectrum.
When I bought it it was in pretty rough shape. I was in a rush to get out of the sellers house, and maybe should have looked this over, but it sounded good enough.
I replaced the head with a Frosted Remo head, which is a huge Improvement over the 20+ year old head that had given up the ghost as soon as I tightened it up.
When I went to change the head, i found that the coordinator rods had been installed upside down…when I removed the neck, the lower lag was lose, and the body had been reassembled in reverse, and the tone ring had been drilled to accommodate this "upgrade".
I don't think the neck and body are original to one another, since the neck didn't quite fit over the tube and plate flange.. a quick trip on the bandsaw, and this was remedied as well.
I upgraded the tailpiece to a Waverly style. Changed the tuners to chrome ones of a similar vintage.
All that said, this banjo sounds great. It sounded pretty good when I got it, but with some tweaking and setup, it sounds really nice now. Plays great up and down the neck, I just think I like playing tenor better…
A nice beginner instrument, very solid and all you could want to get into playing plectrum. Comes with a chipboard case.
Would trade for a tenor of equal value. Sell for $250
