Selling my GTR Style 4 (Reno - double-cut peghead). Bought this a year ago as a backup instrument, but it's time to "thin the herd" and consolidate. Selling precisely as I purchased it. As many here know, GTRs were the first of the well-made Japanese masterclones. Built by Iida and sold from 1974-78. GTR stands for George Gruhn, Tut Taylor and Randy Wood, three dealers/ builders in the Nashville scene in the mid 70s. Dark mahogany finish with 2 piece flange and flat head tone ring. Sources say "a few hundred" made, but exactly how many remains unsure. A good, solid workingman's five-string that will stand up in any session. Power, punch and tone often favorably compared to Gibsons of the period at a bargain price. Cosmetically, this one has accumulated its share of minor dings and scratches to the resonator edges and along the edge of the headstock; there's a heel crack that has been expertly repaired and causes absolutely no problems. RR spikes at 7 and 9. Missing one resonator thumscrew ($3.50 from Janet Davis). Clean head. New hardshell aftermarket case. An ideal banjo for someone looking to upgrade to his/her first professsional-grade instrument, or seeking a respectable backup instrument.
