This is very unique Deering Black Diamond banjo. I am the original owner and purchased this circa 1987. I did not like the neck and resonator wood, so I upgraded to maple. I did not like the "industrial" looking black head, binding and purfling, so I upgraded to more traditional ivory. In preparing to sell this banjo, I contacted Deering to learn more about its heritage. Here is their reply:
Hi Chip,
It is a Black Diamond neck made of maple...very nice wood on the resonator and neck and you have kept it in remarkable shape.
It would be best to use the Black Diamond for pricing. In 1987 that one sold for $955. Today it sells for $3729.
Sincerely,
Carolina Bridges
