1963 Gibson RB100, serial number 125535. If you're looking for a true vintage instrument, read on. This is a 40-year old banjo, but it plays really well and has the Gibson 'feel'. It's a great 'bar' banjo and cuts right through the crowd. Sometime in the past, the neck appears to have been cracked but well-repaired at the heel. The main part of the neck has been re-finished, but you can still just make out the repair-line. IMO, it's an old repair and has worked well. I can see two 'filled' holes at the base of the resonator cover, about jack-socket size, and a few small scuffs. There's a shim between the neck and the rim, fitted possibly to lower the action.
The work is all good quality in my opinion. The head and bridge have been replaced, also the 5th string tuner (now a Waverly...original kept). Everything else appears to be original. The action is a little low on the 5/8" bridge fitted, but even so it plays cleanly right up the neck with no buzzing. This is a vintage instrument that plays like a new-build. I've attached photos and can supply more if required. I've tried to be as descriptive as possible, and of course, I'll be happy to answer any further detail questions and can provide close-up pics of any aspect. There's an excellent Deering plush-lined HSC included.
