This is a beautiful looking and sounding banjo. This Bacon & Day Silver Belle #1 has been appraised to be made circa 1923 by George Gruhn.
"Serial number 10513. This banjo conforms to the typical specifications of the Silver Belle style #1 with lathe-turned maple resonator, round hole flange connecting the resonator to the body, tone ring with exterior holes, laminated maple neck, ebony fingerboard with decorative pearl inlay, fancy pearl inlay on the front of the peghead, and nickle plated hardware. The four finger Oettinger tailpiece and geared tuners are later replacements. Originally this banjo would have a Grover Presto tailpiece and non-geared friction pegs. Current market value $2500.00" This appraisal was done in August of 2009. Also it does not include the original case, but does include a hard case. The inner rim shows no sign of a knee mute being removed. Very small binding crack from shrinkage. Perfectly symetrical.
