This Bruno 17 fret tenor banjo was owned by H.P. Spangler of the Christiansburg VA area. He is known to have played music (trumpet and banjo) at local community events and at the area silent movie houses. Case has his initials on it. The leather banjo head has a pen and ink drawing of Harlequin the Clown playing a saxophone on it. The artist water colored the drawing quite nicely. Now to the banjo features: Scale is approximately 21 1/4", Dot inlay with very little wear to frets or fingerboard, Maple neck with center stripe ( marks can be seen on the back of the neck where Mr. Spangler attached his elastic capo), Aluminum resonator (perhaps Elton) that attaches with spring loaded clips, Birdeye maple spun over rim, All hardware looks original except for the tailpiece which seems to be a replacement, Flat top hooks with some tarnishing, Nuts all match, Peghead has a star inlay and a rectangular brass applied label reading "Magic Wonder", Grooved tension band, case looks good on outside with a good handle too - inside OK but needs to have some of the fabric reattached to the side walls. This would be a nice player or a nice accent piece for decoration. Nice item. Questions received by email or phone. Phone 704-213-8350 (between 5:00PM and 8:00PM please).
