I purchased this banjo form Gruhn 20 tears ago with the intention of fitting it with a plectrum neck. That never happened and now I find I need the money for other things. It was in this condition when purchased, the banjo plays and sounds great.
The finish is in better than average condition, the heel was broken and repaired by the previous owner but has been stable for the last 20 years. The original tailpiece was broken so I put on a replacement that is engraved but not plated. THe top part of the original tailpiece is included. The neck has a slight bow but the action is low and plays without buzzing. Gold plated and engraved flanges and tension hoop, original gold plated Planet tuners with Pearl knobs work perfectly. Gold plating is in very nice condition for a banjo this old. Resonator is a work of art! It is a stunning instrument to see and play.
I have played VegaVox banjos for 40 years and this is the only Daisy-Chain VegaVox IV I have ever had my hands on.
As a side note, I gave banjo lessons to Kirk Douglas last year in Hollywood for a movie he was making and he played this banjo at all the lessons.
