Prewar Gibson Conversion Banjo
All work done approx. 10-12 years ago by Jim Yarboro of Gun Barrel City, Texas.
This banjo consists of an Oriole 3-ply maple rim, refinished and double bound prewar resonator, Gibson-USA Kulesh 20 hole tone ring from the late 1980s. It has a slim mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard featuring the Style-1 "fleur-de-lis" inlay pattern. The tailpiece is an early prewar Grover patent "first model". The rest of the pot assembly, including the flange, tension hoop, hooks and nuts, L brackets etc. appear to be original to the period.
The head is an unmarked Remo, and the bridge is one of Jim's creations. I tried several other makers on it, but none could match the Yarboro for tone on this particular banjo.
It weighs in at a shade over 9 lbs. I've owned several conversions, each with a modern one-piece flange, notched tension hoop, etc., and none were better than this one. I'm offering a 3-day return policy. (Buyer pays shipping.)
Will come housed in a nice TKL archtop hard case.
Asking $1995 + shipping. Interesting trades also considered.
