Fender Concert tone Banjo
this is a Vintage 1970’s Fender Concert Tone Plectrum banjo This instrument was made in Santa Ana California by the Fender Company. They bought the Salstrom banjo company and made banjos under the Fender name for probably less than 15 years. This instrument is not to be confused with the banjos made for fender after that which are imported from Asia which are built like a Gibson copy. The Vintage Fender, is distinctive. You can tell the difference because the Salstrom and the Calif. Fender has the round flange holes.
This instrument was their answer to the Gibson Mastertone, and was made very well, with attention to detail. The Gold plating and the finish both are incredible shape for its age. There is some wear on the arm rest. This banjo was played, but not abused and very well taken care of in its life. All parts fit perfectly and no issues. I put a 5 star head on it. There is a small dent on the back of the neck, but everywhere else seems to be perfect. Two inlays were re-glued, and the frets dressed by Gruhn Guitars. I purchased this banjo from them so you know their reputation about the quality and condition of the instruments they sell. It comes with its original hard shell case which has some stickers and writing on it, but still has some life left in it.
Here are some of the specs from the Fender Catalog:
• 23-caret gold plated
• Truss-rod reinforced neck
• Bell-Brass tone ring
• American Black Walnut neck and resonator
• Rose wood fingerboard
• Marquetry design along neck binding and resonator as well as concentric rings on back.
• Finger style tailpiece
This instrument is set up to play and sound its best. I have 2 so I am selling this one to pare down a bit.
