Do not attempt to adjust your computer screen--the neck really does look that crazy. This is a Celtic tenor banjo with a fanned fret neck (intended tuning is GDAE or variants). The scale length is different for each string--from 19.5" on the 1st string to 21.75" on the 4th. The idea is that the longer scale length on the lower strings keeps them from being too floppy, while the short scale length on the upper strings facilitates easy reaches and familiar fingering patterns for transitioning mandolin players. It works quite well and it seems that as long as you don't think too hard about that crazy fingerboard, the fingering falls into place pretty painlessly. The "tensionator" tailpiece lets you adjust the downward pressure for each string individually (which is helpful with the bridge at such a rakish angle). The "Bacon" style tone ring combined with a 3 1/4" deep rim give a tone that fits nicely between that of a resonator and open back. Impress and confuse your session mates with this unique instrument. other specs: --11" 2-ply cherry rim (extra deep @ 3 14") --Bacon style tone ring --Mahogany neck and dowel stick --2-way adj truss rod --19.5" to 21.75" scale length --Tensionator tailpiece --Gotoh mini guitar tuners --French polish shellac finish --TKL hardshell tenor banjo case included thanks for checking out another one of my crazy creations, Noel Booth Old Fiddle Road Banjo Works
