This is a 1981 Imperial 5-string banjo, made by Ty Piper. I purchased this from Elderly Instruments several years ago; here is the information from the Elderly listing:
IMPERIAL STYLE 0 (c.1981) EC+, Mastertone style instrument made in Oklahoma by Ty Piper, walnut neck and double white-bound curly walnut resonator (with concentric b-w purfling ring), white-bound ebony fretboard with nice inlays, block rim with flathead tone ring, two piece flange, top grade instrument with crisp, bright sound, with HSC.
The only changes I have made since owning the banjo are the installation of spikes to capo the 5th string, and changing the stock tuners to Bill Keith tuners (standard tuners, NOT "D-tuners.") The original tuners will be included, as will a nice, tooled leather strap. The care and maintenance instructions originally provided with the banjo are also included. The frets are in excellent shape, as is the banjo overall (some slight tarnishing on metal parts, nothing unusual) and the original case. The tone is bright and punchy; volume-wise, it fears no dreadnought.
I will accept PayPal payment from and ship to the lower 48 continental United States only.
