Took the price down to $995 from $1095 to see if that sparks some interest. This banjo belonged to a friend of mine, it's been set up professionally with a new head, the metal parts were buffed, and everything was polished. Frets in good shape, no signs of repairs, some wear to the finish on the back of the neck, minor wear and some small dings on the resonator which has faux tortoise all the way around the rim. There are assorted scratches in the metal flange and armrest, etc. from use. All original as far as I know except for a replaced armrest (Bestone), which was installed by two holes drilled into the flange (not sure if those holes were there originally). If the buyer wants, I have an original Vega-stamped one that I can send along with it. The tone ring is a tubaphone and looks like it's original to the instrument. Tuners are friction pegs, and I can't swear that the buttons (which have a molding line ) are original but they are old ones anyway. No sign of other tuners having been installed. There are some cracks in the peghead veneer that don't extend into the actual peghead. Nice pearl inlays on the peghead and neck. Serial number is 69XXX which would put it newer than 1925 but older than 1930. 19 frets. Some fingerboard wear and some fret wear but I don't notice any buzzing. There is some chipping in the black paint around the inside of the rim from contact with the flange tabs. Case, which has the Vega emblem inside the lid, is pretty beat up and I had to reglue where there were seams coming apart but it seems to be holding now. Lots of missing exterior black covering especially where the case arches out. Handle is intact. I think it's quite possible that there is more value in this as a collection of parts due to the value of the tone ring, resonator, tailpiece, etc. but it is still a functional tenor as it is right now.
