For Sale: Sullivan Terry Baucom Signature Banjo - $2,500 USD

2007 Sullivan Signature Series Flathead. This banjo is one of four Terry Baucom models (that I know of) in existance. It was featured in Terry's "Driving With the Duke" DVD. Serial # 0703-1 .Factory Floor rim, Thunderbolt tone ring, mahogany neck and resonator. Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and lower/wider frets (what Terry refers to as "speed frets" that were used on Gibson Banjos from the early 60's.) listed are the specs of this rare limited edition Banjo. a hardshell After much anticipation, it is being announced that Sullivan Banjo is the builder on the new Terry Baucom signature banjo. The mahogany banjo with nickel hardware has been being developed over the past several months and Baucom is happy about his association with Sullivan Banjo and First Quality Musical Supplies of Louisville, Kentucky. ¡°I have known Bill Sullivan and his sons, Jeff and Eric, a long time. Their passion is to provide the highest quality instruments and accessories to their customers. I couldn¡¯t be more pleased that they asked me to be part of the development of this banjo. The Sullivans have high standards and this banjo model is no exception.¡± . Terry will be working closely with Ed Lowe (CEO of John Boy & Billy) and the folks at Sullivan. Ed and Terry will be involved in the final set up of each Baucom banjo. They will inspect and play each one, and none will ship until Baucom is fully satisfied with the sound and playability of each finished instrument. One design specification that was important to Terry is the lower, wider frets popular in 1960s model banjos. Terry calls them ¡°speed frets,¡± and became enamored of them while playing his 60s vintage Bow Tie banjos this past few years. He thinks modern players will enjoy the feel these frets provide. He tells us that he is beyond delighted with his new banjo. ¡°After many hours playing my new Sullivan banjo, I have to say that it goes well beyond my expectations ¨C which were high to begin with.¡± . Terry used his new signature model this week in recording a new banjo instructional DVD, which will be released later this summer on the John Boy & Billy label. He will also use it for an upcoming solo CD project, which unbelievably will be the first ever under his name alone. At this time, there are no details or photos on the Sullivan Banjo site, but we have a list of the specifications for the Terry Baucom Signature model banjo which we obtained from Sullivan. Some photos of the banjo follow the specs. I purchased this banjo directly from Tom Nechville. It was recently set up by Tom, as an archtop, at 2014 SPBGMA. It will come with both a flat head ring and the present arch top ring. I didn’t purchase the wooden tone ring for it when I bought it from Tom, but that could be added and swapped out easily at any time. Also comes with the original hard shell case. I have another new arch top banjo on order, which should arrive in the next few weeks. Some videos of the banjo are available here: youtube.com/user/BearTilly/videos Some of the banjos that might interest me: Bales Williams Huber Hatfield Bishline Cox Prucha Stelling Ome Southern Cross

Serial number 977, label on tone bar marked Ramsey Banjos, Appomattox, VA, so I'm guessing this was made late 90s? 12 inch pot, with skin head. Has a great sound, very plunky, very traditional. I have never had to stuff a rag or anything else in it, the sound is full with a very good mix of lows and middles. Has a decent amount of volume as well...I've played it in jams and was able to be heard and have also been complimented on the tone by professionals. I have steel strings on it....though when I first got it, I played gut and it really had that old-timey sound. No scratches, marks, or other bumps....great condition. I got 3 banjos and due to other instrument purchases, need to divest; as much as I like this'n...I like my Chuck Lee more (and the Deering has frets....so....). Case is a custom Blue Blue Heron bag..well padded with shoulder strap..I'll also throw in the leather strap in the picure...I don't use it and it's just cluttering up the space. Let me know if you want more pix. Will be shipped well padded in a banjo box (funny how I've got so many of those hanging around too!).

I'm going to offer my really nice 2009 mahogany Frank Neat Kentucky model for a quick sale. I have another banjo I would like to buy is the only reason I'm offering it up for sale. It is in really nice condition and was played by a professional for about two years. It was not his only banjo so it didn't get overplayed. It has a Blaylock tone ring and sounds and plays like you would expect a Frank Neat banjo to sound and play. The price I've listed includes shipping and insurance. Don't pass this one up. Offered for sale as long as banjo I'm looking to buy is still available.

For Sale: Ome Celtic Resonator Banjo PRICE DROP - $2,000 USD

Up for sale is a near mint, 6 month old prototype banjo from Ome. The neck, rim, and resonator are all of walnut, with a striking burl pattern on the resonator. It has a "Vintage Tone Ring", which is a new design by Ome. The walnut rim butts right up against the head, but the lip of the rim is wrapped in a brass ring. What you get is this very distinctive, warm, woody tone, that's also loud enough, and with enough upper register to cut through a jam, bluegrass or otherwise. It responds very well to clawhammer and two finger, as well as Scruggs. It's a sweet one. My only reason for selling is that my open back gets all the attention these days.

For Sale: ི TB-100/Earl Scruggs Conversion PRICE REDUCED - $3,700 USD

This banjo started its life as a ’54 TB-100 with a full thickness rim, serial number 4-885-16. It has been converted to replicate the Gibson Earl Scruggs model and it is a cannon. The pot is a ’54 TB-100 and all parts are Gibson or quasi-Gibson with a few exceptions as described. The flange is original; it is the only visible piece that doesn’t look factory new but it polished out to an excellent shine. I replaced the original tension hoop and hooks/nuts; they had some corrosion and definitely did not look new. I also replaced the single coordinator rod with a two rod system. These parts are from 1st quality. The tail piece is a Presto Style with the Gibson logo stamped in. I left the original L-Brackets and thumb screws so it only has 3 and not 4 like the newer (and older) Gibson’s’. The resonator was re-skinned with maple and double binding added. I acquired the neck from Eric Sullivan at 1st Quality. It was slated for a Gibson factory Granada before Gibson stopped production. I had extra inlays added for it to match the ES H&F model. The tone ring is another quasi-Gibson part and is a complete monster. I acquired the ring from Bill Hayes and its one of four that he had. I was lucky enough to get one of them. This is from one of Bill’s ad that describes the ring: “A couple of years ago, after the flood in Nashville and when Gibson stopped producing banjos, I got a call from the plater that Gibson had been using for their Blackjack banjos. He had 4 Crowe tone rings, SN: 10000 through 10003 that had not been plated and that Gibson wasn't going to pick up. I bought them and when I got them, I realized that they were different from the standard Crowe ring that I had been familiar with in that they were heavier. The standard Crowe rings that were used on the RB75 weighed about 2lbs. 15ozs. These later ring that I had weighed right at 3lbs. 3ozs. I had the plater do 2 of them in nickel, 1 in gold, and 1 unplated……” The 1st/4th tuners are waverlys, the 2nd/3rd are Keith-Scruggs tuners, a the 5th is a 5-star. I’ve had the KB tuners a while but they were just reconditioned by the man himself (Bill Keith) and look and work like new. Clancy Mullins did all of the specialty work and did an excellent job making it match the ES model. The sound of this banjo is powerful, it is loud, and has that hard driving traditional banjo sound to it. Basically, it looks a factory new mint condition banjo with the quality of early post-war era Gibsons. It includes a new Guardian Case. I offer a money back guaranty on the quality and sound of this banjo if you’re not satisfied. Buyer will need to pay shipping and insurance. I am also looking for a Pre-War full-size rim or early Post-war pot I would consider in trade if you have one. I posted a video on my home page to see and hear more on this banjo. I am asking $3900 plus shipping/insurance.

This banjo sounds amazing. So much I could say about this banjo but if you are looking chances are you know that it is one of the best on the market. If you do need the spec then just Google it. This particular one is rarer than most you will see as it is an early one and so has the Gibson Hearts and Flowers inlay which I believe had to change. This banjo has had very little use I would say no more than 30hrs total and never taken outside the home. Absolutely no scratches. There is just some slight silvering on the arm rest otherwise as new. You can see that the skin and back of resonator has been signed by Ron Block. The rear of the resonator also has Steve Hubers signature and serial number 308-xx Any trial is welcome and preferred but I am happy to give full money back guarantee if you are not 100% happy. Comes with original hard case. Could consider trade for top model vintage tenor saxophone This banjo is also on Ebay if you would prefer Purchasing through them. OPEN TO OFFERS

Bill Sullivan built this neck in 9-19-01 with highly figured maple and Les Paul frets. The resonator is walnut burl. Cliff Fitch of "Fitch Banjo" call me as he was in the process of closing up his shop and asked me if I was interested in one of the best pots he had ever built. I told him "YES!" so in 2011 I bought this pot and he fitted the neck with a Kershner tailpiece. It has an un-plated Blaylock 20 hole tone ring. This banjo has been my go-to Jo ever since. Bone nut and pip built by Cliff. Railroad spikes at 7,8 and 9. I love the sound and you will too. OR, I will trade for a National Resonator or Tricone Guitar OR, or early 64 Bowtie banjo or earlier. ps: comes with a case. Bridge was made by "xnavyguy". Great story behind this bridge.

Built in 1987 by Ceil Sullivan. All pearl inlay, hand scrimshawed, Madagascar Rosewood neck, double trust rod, Schaller pancake tuners, Blaylock tone ring, all Gibson pot parts with heavy chrome, resonator turned on a lathe and high relief hand carving on back, inlay on back of peg head and heal of neck. Ceil is a great artist, we still share emails, but sadly he no longer builds instruments. This banjo is very loud with a sweet ring and light growl on the 4th string. Rapid note decay, with great separation between notes. Only the highest quality parts were used building this jo. This is a show piece. However, because of the very strong and dense wood used on the neck and resonator this banjo is heavier than most, weighting in at 12.5 lbs. I have always played it while sitting. As you can see, there are no buckle marks on the resonator. This banjo was going to be an heirloom, but no one in our family has interest in music. I would prefer it to go where it's seen and appreciated. OR, I will trade for a National Resonator or Tricone Guitar, OR, I will trade for a National Resonator or Tricone Guitar or early 64 Bowtie banjo or earlier, but not 65 are newer. Thanks for looking.

This banjo has a curly maple neck, rim and resonator with a sunburst stain. Ebony fingerboard, Peghead overlay and healcap. Abalone and mother of pearl inlays, and a polish lacquer finish. Comes with its original hard shell case and really nice strap that I will throw in. Nickel Plated metal parts Snuffy Smith bridge and a Ome's Megatone Tone Ring. This banjo and case are in excellent condition and it has only been played very little. Ome just raised their price of the Sweetgrass to $4325.00 as of January 2014, this banjo will be quite an excellent buy for anyone. I love this banjo, it's look, it's sound is fantastic, it frets and plays like butter. I can guarantee you will love the sweet sound. It has never been taken out of this smoke-free home. Just a note, I call Ome once about 4 years after I bought it and was visiting with Tanya Ogsbury at Ome telling her how much I loved the banjo. She told me that she remember the banjo because they were so pleased with the way that banjo came out. She said, the banjo took the sunburst stain so well. She was glade to know where the banjo was. I was thrilled to know they remember this jewel. Original case. I sincerely hope it finds it's way to another good home. OR, I will trade for a National Resonator or Tricone Guitar or early 64 Bowtie banjo or earlier, but not 65 are newer.

Great curly maple, gold plated Osborne Chief with no issues and no excuses. Banjo has the original Chief Hearts and Flowers mop inlay, Sonny's signature block in pearl along with pearl nuts. Great workmanship and finish including a 'speed neck' by Frank Neat. This banjo has been upgraded with the new design Blaylock tone ring for the Chiefs. I purchased the tone ring directly from Sonny. What an innovative tone ring design. I've never seen anything like it. It appears to be a combo of the ring in the old Vega Sonny Osborne model banjos and a Gibson mastertone style flathead ring. This ring really gives that highly sought after traditional flathead sound. When I had the banjo apart to install the new ring I also installed a new AMB pre epa head, new strings and one of my roasted maple bridges. It is set up and ready to play on stage, in the studio or in the privacy of your own home. Comes with a new case. You will not be disappointed in the tone, volume, playability or appearance of this professional grade instrument. The banjo is a 2003 model and has apparently spent most all of its' life in a case. I need some money and it needs a good home. Sorry no trades.
