One of only two six-string banjos made by Fred Van Eps in 1934, signed and dated by him. (The 'twin' was later modified as a five-string for George Collins who snapped the perch pole
(dowel stick) while fitting a vellum). Please note this is a six string banjo, NOT a 'banjo-guitar
as incorrectly described elsewhere. The tuning is exactly the same as a 5 string banjo with an additional low F bass
accommodated with a wider 'VE flush-fret' fingerboard.
This 12" hoop instrument features unique tailpiece design and Van Eps patented geared pegs.
Included in the price are two original manuscripts written (in pencil) by FVE for the six-stringer.
Letters from this instrument's sole owner who bought it from FVE are also available.
The banjo has had three owners. It was purchased from FVE by a long-time friend, Dave Boynton,
an executive in the Singer Sewing Machine company. It was purchased by Bob Thornburgh from
Dave's widow. It was purchased by the seller from the RGT estate.
