Offered for sale is an exceptional Fender Artist 5-string banjo with the rare Concert Tone neck option. The beautiful headstock and fingerboard inlays really set this Artist banjo apart from the crowd. The slender neck on this instrument was refinished in nitrocellulose lacquer by NJ luthier Ed Foley. Ed created a "speed neck" finish per my request and the result is an extremely fast action. He also created, per my request, an ODE style 5th string nut that sits along side the shortened 5th fret and intonates perfectly. The final touches included new Stewart-MacDonald planetary tuners, a Presto tailpiece and a compensating bridge by Arthur Hatfield. I attempted to install a new mother-of-pearl truss rod cover but got too aggressive with the drill and split the pearl. Bummer! The headstock is begging for a new truss-rod cover, I just never got around to fitting another one. There is a small worn through area in the fingerboard binding, right near the 5th string tuning peg. Other than that the instrument is in superb condition and is a joy to play. If you're reading this you're no doubt aware that the 1960's era American-made Fender banjos were superbly crafted instruments; totally eclipsing the Gibson instruments of the same era. I will entertain all serious offers and will consider a trade for select Deering, Huber or Hatfield models. This instrument is sold without a case and will be shipped with the neck removed from the pot. I've already had both UPS and FedEx destroy banjo necks in transit and have learned my lesson. Local pickup gives you a chance to play it before buying and take it away in one playable piece. Sound files can be arranged if you insist. Thanks for looking.
