Vintage 1963 Gibson RB-170 Openback S#109236 "Nice"
LQQking for a REAL Vintage Gibson that will, in time, go up in value, if so, here is your chance. These don't come around very often.
Finished in dark walnut color. 3 ply Full 3/4" Maple Rim. Mahogany neck with adjustable truss rod. Rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays. Geared individual pegs. 24 brackets, 11" rim; 26 1/4 inch scale, 22 frets." Brass hoop tone ring setting on the inside of the rim, (archtop style) makes this banjo ring out ! Fret wear is virtually non-existent. It's an excellent instrument for the serious musician or a beginner, which means you don't have to upgrade later on. Easy action, a straight neck, and incredible volume. This banjo boasted cam style tuners which have been removed, holes were not filled but have been nicely capped and the caps can be easily removed if someone wants to restore it with cam tuners. Two of the knobs have been changed as you can see in the pics, otherwise everything is original except for the Removable Shorty Resonator which can be removed and used on another openback.
There are only a few small marks here and there but for an insturment that is 50 years old, it looks, plays and sounds great. It has the fat frets and they last forever and easy to play.
Great for old time/clawhammer and finger picks too, the resonator adds a lot of volume. It's light and easy to handle. Great for someone who likes to pick Bluegrass but has a bad back.
Banjo comes with an older soft shell case, the one that came with the banjo when I got it.
