On offer is a Brooks Masten banjo. This particular instrument features Brooks' "Silverspun" pot in an 11.5" size, a nice compromise between the more typical 11" and 12" sizes. The neck is walnut with an ebony fingerboard (scooped) and a highly figured claro walnut peghead overlay. The rim is gorgeous birdseye maple stained to complement the neck and highlight its figure, then clad in nickel. The banjo also features Brooks' cast "butterfly" shoes; his own J-hooks, nuts and cast tailpiece; and a nicely mottled skin head. This was a custom build, with 18 shoes/hooks/nuts rather than Brooks' more typical 20L or 30L models. The result is a banjo that is slightly lighter than the normal "Silverspun", yet it has all the tonal characteristics one associates with this rim design. This instrument and its case are in mint condition, virtually indistinguishable from new; I'm the original owner so I can verify that it has been very well taken care of. I'm only parting with this banjo because I've recently received a 6-string Brooks that is more in line with my current musical interests, and I don't want this instrument simply to sit in the closet--it's a great playing/sounding banjo and deserves more use.
The price is $1400 plus actual shipping costs (to be determined) via FedEx. I'll accept checks, money orders and Paypal, but if using the latter I request that you add 3% to cover the surcharge for this service.
There's an audio sample on my BHO webpage, which I think is a decent approximation of the warm tonal quality of this particular banjo. Feel free to contact me via BHO if you have questions or would like more photographs.
