Woodsong Five String Banjo handcrafted by Corky Wirick, Bedford, PA. Serial Number: 188 This beautiful Woodsong banjo has a bold sound and is in excellent condition. I have played it only at home which is a smoke free, humidity controlled environment. The banjo was completed on 3/15/04 and was made by Corky Wirick in Bedford, PA. Corky made 220 or so banjos but quit being a luthier several years ago (he's in his 80s). His banjos have earned excellent reviews and now are becoming collectors' items. This one is an open back five-string with a three-ply maple pot and cherry neck. It has a large bell tone tubaphone style tone ring. The neck has an elaborate abalone tree of life inlaid by Corky. He also inlaid the word "Cork" in the black heel cap. The pot is encircled by a narrow multicolored wood ring design. The hardware is nickel plated. There are 24 brackets plus an arm rest. A butterfly inlay adorns the peg head and the word mark Woodsong is at the top of the fiddle shaped head. The tuners are Star Planet. This banjo has a frosted drum which shows finger wear but no damage. It is still in excellent shape. The neck is straight and there are no cracks or other damage. There is a skunk stripe up the back of the neck. It sports a Sosebee 5/8" bridge. The banjo is 38 inches long. The base of the nut to the center of the bridge is 26 3/8 inches (26 5/16ths to the center of the nut). The width of the finger board at the nut is 1 3/8 inches. The notches in the nut are 5/16ths of an inch apart. The diameter of the head is 11.5 inches. It has four RR spikes -- at the 7th, 9th, 10th, and 12th frets. The inside of the pot is inscribed with my name, the date completed, and the words "Cork Wirick," all etched on the lower inside curve. I'm including a high quality TKL case, with a red interior. All information provided here is to the best of my knowledge. If at all possible, you should play the banjo and hear how great it sounds. I'm happy to do phone, Google + or Skype demonstration. I will ship anywhere and pay up to $45 -- buyer pays anything addtional. Feel free to send me questions. My reason for parting with this banjo is that I have permanently injured both shoulders and am no longer able to play it. It's a great instrument and it deserves to be heard, not just kept in a case. I am asking $1,800. I'm downsizing and can't take it back, so the sale is final.
