All original Deering Sierra. I am not sure when this banjo was built, but it is in excellent condition, and sounds and plays beautifully. It has a new Remo frosted head. The original Deering head, which is fine, but shows some wear on the frosting, is also included. There is no tarnishing on the metal parts, and no blemishes on the wood. It had a recent tune up by Richie Dotson, which included reworking the nut to correct the action height. There is no noticeable fret wear or any other playability issue. The price includes the original Deering hard shell case.
I am selling it because I have decided to concentrate on "Old Time" music and playing styles and want to get a nice custom open back. I would be willing to consider trades for an open back along the lines of a Chuck Lee, Bart Reiter, Mike Ramsey, Vega, or equivalent. Preferably I would like something lighter than the Sierra. An open back with a whyte laydie or tubaphone tone ring would be ideal. I am willing to trade for a more expensive open back up to $2000, and will pay the difference in cash. I am not looking for an inexpensive open back as I already have a Goodtime Classic that I really like.
