I'd like to acquire a banjo and prefer to do it through a trade. Here is a little background:
I'm guilty of not concentrating enough on learning to play my six string acoustic guitars as well as I could. Part of the reason is that I sometimes wander off into other venues - e.g. messing with a 12 string guitar, a square neck (dobro) resonator, a mandolin, a uke, a harmonica, a keyboard, and the like. I always come back to my first love which is the six string acoustic guitar, but these brief flings with other instruments have been interesting and educational for me. I've come to appreciate more fully the skills and knowledge needed in each venue as a result.
One area I haven't yet explored is playing banjo. I've had the urge, but haven't take the plunge. I've read and seen enough to know this is not a simple undertaking. Obviously there are several different types of banjos that are used to play a variety of music. I'm ready to make a start.
The old recipe for rabbit soup starts with "1. catch a rabbit." Accordingly, the first step in learning to play a banjo is "1. acquire a banjo." I hope this posting will lead in that direction.
I own a bunch of guitars. I'd like to trade one of them for a banjo. I have an open mind about price and type of banjo. If you have a banjo that is available, let's see if we can find an instrument in my collection that would suit you. Knowing as little as I do about banjos, I'm reluctant to express any preferences, but do lean toward five string with open back. But I'm willing to consider other alternatives.
I have a guitar listed for sale in the classified section of the Acoustic Guitar Forum at this time - an Alvarez WY-1K for $975. I'd offer that up as possible trade bait, but if that isn't your cup of tea, I've got others that cost less and others that cost more. We can try to find a match if you're willing to talk. As indicated above, I also have resonators, mandolins, ukes and even a pretty nice Yamaha keyboard. What banjo do you have that you might like to trade? Thanks. Larry
