Circa 1931-1936 Gibson TB-11 Banjo
The pre-war style 11 tenor banjo for collectors or for conversion. Great condition. All original except for the head (which in itself is a pre-EPA Remo.) Full thickness rim with the rolled brass hoop. Everything works and it is playable (see my video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH6Q4YjzHJE&feature=youtu.be .)
No serial number (as is true on many of these, especially the earlier ones. The dating is due to three factors--#1 Gibson started putting the brass hoop on the inside of the rim in 1937 giving a different appearance (kind of like an archtop banjo.) #2 The style 11 began in 1931. #3 The Grover pancake tuners were on the earlier models. All of this according to Greg Earnest's site.
Unique piece as the design on the back is in the cross pattern rather than the typical cross pattern. I have only seen one other that has the cross pattern like this one and it is one of the ones on Greg Earnest's site.
Some very light wear on the plating (see pictures) and the owner put his initials in the inside of the rim. Other than that, not much to complain about here. Picture #5 shows some wear on the finish which isn't nearly as bad as it looks in the photo, I included it here just so nobody would complain once they got it.
According to the person I bought it from...
"It was loved and played often early in it's life. The original owner passed away in 1943, during WW II, and it has been in storage since that time. Note there are two bushings missing from the Grover two-tab tuners. It also has some minor wear spots showing on the neck."
Original Hardshell case is included.
