For Sale: For sale: Bart Reiter Buckbee - $950 USD

I bought this banjo (#3892) in Sept. 2013 from a Hangout member. I liked it so much that I bought a Reiter "A Flat" which has a 24 3/4" scale. I found that the shorter scale worked best for me so I bought a Sagmoen short scale the first of this year and no longer need the Buckbee. I have the Buckbee set up with a black painted (on the inside) Renaissance head, Aquila "Super Nylguts" and a walnut bridge and tailpiece. The original "no knot" tailpiece will be included along with a new set of AMB cryo strings, the original ebony topped bridge and a couple of bridges for use with nylon strings. The Buckbee has a mahogany neck. I'll ship the banjo in a new, "Musician's Friend" hard case (with padding as the case is for a resonator.) There is a nick in the neck as shown in the picture. There is a RR spike at the 7th fret. Here's how the banjo sounds as it's set up now: banjohangout.org/myhangout/med...archived=

For Sale: 1928 Gibson TB-3 Mastertone w/OHSC - $3,450 USD

Original 1928 Gibson TB-3 Mastertone Tenor Banjo conforming to all normal specs for the model year with 40 Hole Arch Top tone ring, full thickness three ply maple rim, dark stained Resonator, tube and plate flange. Though it is pictured set up converted with a 1970's RB-250 five string neck. We received this as an original tenor in the original case with the Gibson wrench with a Rogers skin head that is not torn. We wanted to hear what it had to offer , so Jane installed the neck and a standard frosted plastic head, and this is nothing short of wonderful pre-war archtop sound with loads of volume. She put the Presto-like tailpiece on, as you can see, the original presto is in the case with no cracks or bends. Ideally , this banjo should sell returned to the original tenor configuration, with the original presto, wrench and case, and neck, and the new owner can play it as a tenor, or have the neck of their dreams built by their favorite maker. If you are fortunate and can come into the shop to play it as a five string, you will be most pleased. Feel free to call and discuss the possibilities. We would are asking $3450 WITHOUT the RB neck (it would be a shame to orphan the pot that it belongs to). Shipping will be $100 Fedex fully insured in the CONUS. Please review the pictures, there are lots of them. As you can see there are some scratches on the back of the reso, and one scratch on the inside of the rim. Dr. Ralph would be happy with this Mastertone!

For Sale or Trade: Bishline Midnight Moon - $2,000 USD

I'm selling my trusty Bishline Midnight Moon. It's been my main gigging banjo for about 5 years. It's an all maple banjo with a TP Schaeffer rim and (I believe) a Bishline tone ring. Currently outfitted with a Sullivan bridge and a renaissance head. Spikes at 7 and 9. The only semi major thing I changed was to remove the 5th string spike and add a 5th string nut (pip), installed by well-respected luthier Bruce Taggart. Known issues: Very small, shallow scratch in resonator (see pic). 5th tuning peg is loose, but doesn't slip at all (an easy fix, according to the folks in the setup and repair forum). Metal is dirty and needs a good polishing. A couple of the hooks have rust. Some fret wear on the first 5 frets. Beautiful, beautiful banjo. I just need money right now more than a pretty banjo! Bishline's necks are thin and lightning fast. I think the setup I have on it now works well for my taste, but you could brighten it up with a remo head if you wanted to. Comes with a Bishline case. Willing to entertain combo trade/purchases for higher end Rk, Ode, Fender artist, or Goldstar, or something similar.

For Sale: Vintage Kay Banjo - $298 USD

Collector’s item! This 1960's Kay is an open back 5-string banjo. It has 30 brackets/ hooks which allow you to tighten the Snuffy Smith head very easily and evenly. The banjo is in great shape overall. The black lacquer finish is lightly scratched here and there, but there are no cracks or splits; no severe gouges or dings. The chrome hoop and brackets are in very good shape and the tuning pegs all work smoothly and efficiently. Two of the tuning machine arms are slightly bent but could be straightened easily. The fret board has a very small chip at the upper end of the neck, and the 11th fret wire has a slight ding in it and just needs to be filed smooth. A couple of the upper frets need adjusting. I put a brand new bridge on it and it works quite well. Except for the new bridge and head, this banjo is all original. Kay was once a high volume company that produced and sold a lot of banjos. This one was made in Chicago in the early 1960's. The 30 bracket models, like this banjo, were higher end Kays. This banjo has good sound and has many an old time tune like Sourwood Mountain and Cripple Creek under its belt. Will consider any reasonable offer! :-)

This is a courtesy listing for a friend. He's selling a really nice Gibson RB-3 Wreath copy......folks, this is a steal of a deal for a banjo like this! Double bound mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard with wreath MOP inlay, double-cut peghead, bound Cox mahogany resonator with dual concentric rings, Cox 3-ply maple rim, Sullivan 20-hole flathead tone ring (same ring as the Gibson-Crowe), dual coordinator rods, one piece flange, 24 bracket notched tension hoop, new Remo head, 5th string capo spikes installed at 7 and 9, planetary tuners with geared 5th peg, and Presto tailpiece. All of the hardware is nickel plated. The only issue with this banjo is the heel was originally cut for a two-piece flange, and has now been modified to fit a one-piece flange. The inside of the resonator is signed by the late, great Earl Scruggs. Comes shipped in a good, serviceable hard shell case. A sound file of this banjo is available. In case you might want to see and play this one in person, the banjo is located in the Bedford, VA area.

For Sale: Gibson Mastertone - $1,600 USD

Gibson Mastertone banjo from late 60's. Full thickness rim and one- piece flange. I have 2 videos of me playing it on my hangout page videos (the second and third from the top) banjohangout.org/myhangout/vid...rID=22701 . It sounds and plays better now than it did. I replaced the nut with prewar style bone nut and pip and replaced the worn original jumbo frets with medium stainless steel frets. The 4 tuners are original and work great. The fifth string tuner was originally a friction type but I put a Waverly geared tuner in its place. The tuner buttons are original. The neck was broken and repaired long ago and is structurally sound. Has good old sound from the old wood. A great Gibson tone and power. I must be nuts for selling it. There's a marking on the headstock... Gibson, and on the fret board inlay...Mastertone.

For Sale: Chuck Lee Custom Dobson 11-inch - $2,675 USD

Purchased from Zepp Country Music, this one-off piece combines several "Dobson" features of Chuck's Cottonwood model with the peghead shape of a Lone Star Deluxe and the headstock inlay of an Ovilla. Chuck has used select maple for this banjo, so the neck is highly flamed. This is one beautiful, great-sounding banjo. This banjo was barely played for several months while taking lessons from Zepp, who has graciously offered a reference for the banjo. -The peghead has the shape of the Lone Star Deluxe, but with the inlay of an Ovilla model in the ebony overlay. -The banjo comes with a Renaissance brand head and an overtone-reducing, modified No-Knot tailpiece. The "seagull-scooped," ebony fingerboard has both offset position dots and side marker dots to help you find your way around. -The thin, 11-inch pot is made of select maple, and houses a Dobson-style tone ring. -The four long strings have Waverly brand planetary tuners; the 5th string is tuned with a 5-Star brand worm-and-pinion tuner. -The instrument has a Dobson-style heel. The metal bits are nickel-plated. The 11-inch pot is made of select maple. -The 3-piece neck of this banjo is predominantly flamed maple. -Includes hardshell case.

For Sale: For Sale: 2013 Hatfield Custom W/Blaylock Tone Ring - $2,200 USD

For sale 2013 Hatfield custom with Bill Blaylock unplated tone ring. Mahogany neck and resonator, wreath inlay pattern, Hatfield .656 compensated bridge, no fret wear, spikes at 7, 8 and 9 and Superior Fiberglass case in nice condition. I bought this Hatfield Custom a year and a half ago and it came with a tone hoop. Last spring I went Bill Blaylocks shop and he cut the rim and installed one of his incredible unplated tone rings on Arthur Hatfield's beautiful banjo. The reason I am selling is that Mr. Blaylock installed another ring in my 1927 Gibson conversion and both banjos are so close in tone and volume that I am going to look for something to contrast the Gibson for sound, maybe maple. The back of the resonator has a small ding shown in photo at about the 10 o'clock position.

Fender FB-54 5 String...I bought this banjo in 1998 at Del City Music in Del City, Oklahoma. It is in very good condition and would be great as a Beginner Banjo. Original Fender case included. I recently bought a Lakota (Non-Cradle) strap for it and will throw the strap in on the sale. Strap was $60.00 and is less than a month old and is made out of Bison Hide...super soft!! I did cut some of the excess strap off after I fitted it to the length I needed. Thanks for looking...Picker54

Pot assy. is a Gibson RB Deluxe with full tone ring 2004 or 2005. Gibson USA flange can be seen in photo. Serial number is hard to read, but ends in 27. Neck is older 250 Bowtie with original Kluson tuners that still work good. Resonator is not Gibson and unknown brand. All wood is in very good shape and has no scratches or dents. All metal very good condition. Includes hard shell case and has a Snuffy Smith bridge on it. The neck does have a thin shim to allow strings to set low and make easy to play. Plays and sounds good as is, but a good set up by an expert would probably make it even better since I'm no expert. Would consider trades, guitar or banjo.
