1980 Model D with the classic ODE sound. This thing is a monster, sounds great on stage or recording studio. This banjo recorded better than most pre war Gibsons and others. This was the primary instrument for a player before I bought it 20 years ago. It has some gold worn off (especially the armrest) and some wear. It can be replated at Huber for $60.00. These are very collectible since 1980 was the last year of production. The banjo has spikes on the 5th string that stay in tune, when you use them. Includes orginal hardshell case, you may call or text me at 419-571-4077 for additional info or sound clips or PM me on The Hangout.

For Sale: 1980 Ode Style D - $2,300 USD
I don't want to sell this banjo, but I've got two great banjos and really only need one, so I'm listing them both and will keep whichever one does not sell first. Ode Style Ds are fairly rare and highly coveted...an outstanding US-made vintage banjo option for those who can see past the "Earl played a Gibson" thing. Bobby Thompson is the most famous Ode player, but a lot of great bluegrass pickers own and love their vintage Ode banjos.
This comes from the Baldwin period, after Chuck Ogsbury sold the company. Banjo is in very good condition. First frets show wear and there are some minor scratches from play, but the metal parts look great and the banjo is in very good condition considering its age. Back of the resonator shows a few finish bubbles that I could not photograph. You'll often see these banjos with heavily tarnished or flaking gold hardware - this one looks pretty clean. And it is one LOUD banjo. Really pops, and grabs attention in a jam. Has a sliding 5th string capo installed, but otherwise appears to be all original. The inside of the resonator shows two holes in the rim - for some reason the resonator lugs were moved by the original owner. The original owner had a clear head on the banjo and had stickers with his name on the inside of the resonator. The second owner removed them, but you can still see some discoloration where they were originally stuck. Comes with original hardshell case.

For Sale: Stelling Sunflower, 2003, Lightly Played - $2,650 USD
2003 Stelling Sunflower, maple, Tony Pass rim. Very close to mint condition, but it is a used banjo, so I rated it as Excellent. The only noticeable fret wear is at the second fret. The condition of the finish is
almost flawless. Any sign of a flaw is too small to show up in the photos. Not much tarnish to the metal and the armrest will probably polish up nicely. Original Stelling case is almost perfect.
The banjo has the original Ludwig head and Stelling bridge. It is a clear sounding, powerful instrument that is responsive and a pleasure to play. I have four other Stellings, or I wouldn't sell this one.
Included is a nice padded nylon strap, capo, set of Elixer strings, T-40 Korg tuner/metronome, nut driver, semichrome polish and the Stelling setup instruction material.
If you don't want all the extras, deduct $50 from the selling price. I will include the nut driver and setup material, of course, since they came with the banjo.
I welcome any questions you may have.

For Sale: 1994 Gibson Granada $4100 OBO - $4,200 USD
1994 Gibson Granada ser. # 9412-118. This banjo has good volume and that great Gibson sound. Arm rest has some slight wear and a few small pits that are very small. Tension hoop has some black spots ( neither effect the way it plays. see pictures ) It come with brown Gibson case. I took this banjo apart and cleaned it with gold coin cleaner and a polishing cloth I got from my jeweler. About 95 percent of the tarnish is gone. It still has some small pits but it looks much much better. I also set the tone ring and put a new head on it. Sounds great. New pictures will follow.

For Sale: 1932 TB-1 Gibson Conversion Banjo - $4,800 USD
Gibson 1932 TB-1 conversion to a Mastertone five string banjo S/N 252-11. The maple neck came from Mr. Frank Neat. The wood rim is what makes this banjo a prewar tone monster. The wood rim can not be reproduced its over 150 years old. New banjos just don't have that sound. The Rim was sent to Mr. Bill Sullivan at First Quality for cutting. The tone ring came from Mr. Curtis McPeake and he in turn bought it from Mr. Paul Hopkins banjo's. Its a flat head polished brass tone ring golden in color. Also installed is a set of Mr. Bill Keith D tuners. Finger board has hearts and flowers inlay and is made of rose wood. Also included is a hard shell case. The only reason for selling is I just don't play it anymore. the video player has bad sound to much bass. No deals and new banjos worth $7,000.00 can't even come close to a prewar banjo's tone or sound. You payed for it. You keep it. There will be no trades for this banjo. Keep it in the USA. For Sale: 1988 Gibson Earl Scruggs standard $4,000.00 - $4,000 USD
For sale my one and only banjo all the way back to 1988 S/N 1170. I am the one owner sense new for 29 years. It's time to sell my Gibson Mastertone. You can read all of what I did to this banjo in the reviews for the ESS Mastertone Banjo.
After all the adjustments to this banjo. It to me is as clear and bell tone as my prewar Gibson that was bought from Jim Mills. I've owned and played many Gibson banjo's but this is the only banjo built within the last 40 years that has produced such a prewar tone.
Earl was not apprehensive to make adjustments to his fine Gibson banjo Nor myself in enhancing the tone of this banjo. The things I did to make this banjo sound much better in many ways did nothing to diminish the looks or play ability. I really like the way it came out. I would not of put it up for sale if I didn't.
This ESS Banjo has the label inside with Earls true signature written with a blue felt pen. Not a printed signature that was written once and copied hundreds of times. The name signed in this ESS banjo is as different as night and day next to another signature signed by Earl Scruggs with the blue felt pen.
I'm asking $4,000.00 Dollars for this fine sounding banjo. Like a leap of faith that I did when buying a vary expensive banjo from Jim Mills fine collection. So as you to will have to make that somewhat smaller leap for a banjo that can only go up in value as the years go by. I knew the best of materials went into the making of this banjo. Older banjos from the 1920's and 1930's were nothing special as materials were used that were on hand. Time made them what they are today. Top end banjos of today were made using all the finest materials right down to the smallest nano atoms of materials. So the newer banjos have a head start in becoming real high priced heirloom banjos.
The ESS banjo comes with Bill Keith D tuners and RR spikes. The D tuner knobs have the word Gibson on them also I was told this is rare. Also a hard shell case with Gibson printed on it, that is older than the ESS banjo. The finish has the fine lines showing its age. Prewar banjos also have the fine lines showing a much older clear finish. Earls true autograph is bringing up this ESS value each year and I can't wait. I'm getting to old. There will be no deals or trades so don't even think of trying. TKS....

For Sale: Nice 1930s Style 11 Prewar Gibson Banjo For Sale - $2,900 USD
1930s Gibson prewar TB style 11with duplicate 5 string neck, all original pot and uncut rim with exception of a couple of hooks and nuts, tailpiece bracket and a 2 pc 50s-60s armrest. Original would have been a 1 pc armrest.
Resonator is in very good shape for its age and has no pull up on mother of toilet seat.
This one is the rarer green color as well and really beautiful.
This banjo came from the late “Harry West” several years ago and the gentleman that sold this to me has had it for many years as well.
The duplicate 5 string neck was probably made by Tom Morgan as I remember Tom telling me once that he made several necks for Harry over the years.
When I set it up today I found out that the head was busted so I replaced the head and put on a Sullivan roasted maple bridge and this baby will peel paint!
The neck builder used the original Grover 2 tab tuners along with the matching Grover friction 5th tuner.
Rim is round within a few thousands and very tight with no delaminations at all.
Banjo comes with Access hard-shell case seen in pics.
The rim does not have a Gibson sticker nor serial number but it is most definitely the original rim to the banjo.
Prewar flange has just slight pull up right at either side of neck but not bad at all.
I have seen more than one style 11 that did not have a sticker……most did but a few got out without one.
If this banjo doesn’t sell in a week or so I may consider parting it out but would really hate to have to do this.
This is a great player banjo and you will be surprised how good it sounds without the rim being cut for a tone ring.
Thanks for looking!

Thought I would throw this out here and "strike while the iron is hot" !
Japanese made neck and resonator, salvaged from a destroyed aluminum pot, and transplanted onto a 2-3 year old "Savannah" Chinese-made wood pot. No tone ring or hoop.
The brand new Remo head rides directly on the wooden rim.
Finish on neck and reso are in amazingly good condition for 40+ years old. Reso has some "buckle rash" and scratches.
Mahogany neck, stained dark "Gibson" red, headstock has "Trump" badge on it (original and "real"), still has the "Made in Japan" sticker on the back of the headstock. Nice piece of rosewood for the fingerboard. Basic "dot" inlays.
Spikes at 7 and 9 frets.
All original, geared guitar-type tuners, friction 5th string tuner, all with vintage amber "Catalin" buttons. All tuners, including 5th, work very well.
Old retro Japanese wooden armrest, from the original banjo.
Has a thin shim between the neck heel and the pot.
.585" no-name bridge.
Brand new import Waverly-style tailpiece. D'addarrio J69 light strings, with phosphor bronze wound 4th.

For Sale: Pisgah Possum 12" - cherry - brass hardware - Sold - $1,000 USD
Pisgah Possum #253 - 12” with cherry pot, cherry neck and brass hardware. Persimmon hardwood tone ring and fingerboard. The persimmon has really started to gain full color and character and the cherry pot and neck are developing some of that warm redness that comes with time. I bought this banjo direct from Patrick Heavner at Pisgah two years ago. I have ordered a custom instrument so the herd must be thinned!
These instruments are a great value. They’re USA made from sustainable hardwoods in a 100% solar-powered shop. Nice warm tone with old time plunk. Nice patina starting on the brass. The individual colors in the persimmon fingerboard are becoming more distinct with time. A few more years (as the cherry darkens) this thing will look so cool! (I'm starting to get cold feet thinking about that.)
Measurements: standard 26.25" Pisgah scale length; nut is 1 3/8" or 1 7/16" (I can't decide!). This instrument is in excellent condition!
The strap and bridge in photos NOT included. Original bridge with the banjo.
$1000 including a Superior bump-style case (the lock latch needs key mechanism put back in - otherwise works fine. Does anyone really lock these things?). Free shipping in the continental U.S. Contact me through the hangout. Reasonable offers entertained. I paid $1250 for the banjo and case would run you at least $100.
A great banjo for a good price just in time for festival and camp season.
