For Sale: Bishline Midnight Moon-(on hold pending sale). - $2,000 USD
More pics available on my homepage!
I'm selling my trusty Bishline Midnight Moon. It's been my main gigging banjo for about 5 years. It's an all maple banjo with a TP Schaeffer rim and (I believe) a Bishline tone ring. Currently outfitted with a Sullivan bridge and a renaissance head. Spikes at 7 and 9. The only semi major thing I changed was to remove the 5th string spike and add a 5th string nut (pip), installed by well-respected luthier Bruce Taggart. Note: the two pickups and the snark tuner attachment installed in the picture are not included. They will be removed before shipping.
Known issues: Very small, shallow scratch in resonator (see pic). 5th tuning peg is loose, but doesn't slip at all (an easy fix, according to the folks in the setup and repair forum). Metal is dirty and needs a good polishing. A couple of the hooks have rust. Some fret wear on the first 5 frets.
Beautiful, beautiful banjo. I just need money right now more than a pretty banjo! Bishline's necks are thin and lightning fast. I think the setup I have on it now works well for my taste, but you could brighten it up with a remo head if you wanted to. Comes with a Bishline case.
Edit: No longer entertaining partial trade offers.

For Sale or Trade: 1994 Gibson Granada $4100 OBO - $4,200 USD
1994 Gibson Granada ser. # 9412-118. This banjo has good volume and that great Gibson sound. Arm rest has some slight wear and a few small pits that are very small. Tension hoop has some small pits ( neither effect the way it plays. see pictures ) It come with brown Gibson case. I took this banjo apart and cleaned it with gold coin cleaner and a polishing cloth I got from my jeweler. About 95 percent of the tarnish is gone. It still has some small pits but it looks much much better. The banjo was professionally set up and the the tone ring was set and it had a new head put on it. Some of the frets were to high and where dressed and the bridge was dressed to fit the neck. Sounds great. New pictures are on.

For Sale: Fender Leo Deluxe - $1,000 USD
I've played and enjoyed this banjo for several years, and I didn't expect to sell it, but I've got two great banjos and really only need one. These Fender Leo Deluxe banjos are a far cry from the inferior made-in-Korea Fender banjos of recent years. They were made in Japan and exhibit fine craftsmanship, pretty woods, and a unique, vintage-inspired design. The flame maple resonator is especially striking, and I always liked the inlay work on this deluxe model. I don't know of any other option anywhere near this price range that competes on aesthetics, playability, and tone. Has spikes installed for the 5th string, but is otherwise all original.
Comes with original Fender hardshell case. Please note - it does NOT come with the pictured leather strap.

For Sale: Deering/Vega#2 Tubaphone openback - $2,850 USD
I purchased this banjo new from Banjo.com in 2006. It has a beautiful blonde maple neck.
Though I've played it quite a bit over the years as it was a mainstay of my collection, it is in excellent, virtually pristine condition.
I have recently replaced the original frosted head with a skin head and the bridge has been replaced; otherwise, all parts are original. The tubaphone sound is powerful yet warm. This openback classic is priced at a deep discount to a new model.

For Sale: PRICE DROP! GIBSON 1926 Style 3 w/ Frank Neat neck - $3,800 USD
I'm lowering the price in order to fund another banjo that I really want to purchase.
The description is as follows: Frank Neat neck & Keith D-Tuners.
The photos show a Mitch & J 38 Special Tone Ring, but I took it out and
replaced it with another tone ring from a banjo that I sold recently. (The tone ring came out of a Frank Neat RB4.
I do not know the brand of the tone ring that's in it now.) The only reason why I removed the Mitch tone ring was
because it was gold.
Comes with a TKL case with a repaired handle. Also, there has been a repair on the OUTSIDE EDGE of the one piece flange.
I got the banjo in a trade with Barry Waldrep from Banjo.com. I'm not super educated in the prewars, but this is my 3rd one.
I'm only dropping the price because I found another banjo that I wish to purchase. The price listed includes shipping (within reason).

For Sale: NOW SHIPPING: Two prewar conversions, all work done by Robin Smith - $3,675 USD
I have a 1929 TB-1 conversion and and a 1928 TB-2 conversion to 5-strings, both restored to how they would have been if originally issued as 5-strings of their time period. I did cheat a little on the 1929 TB-1 and went with the gulls inlay from 1930...The dots from 1929 were just too bland. Classic and appropriate peghead shapes for each.dartmouth.edu/~smg6/pics_tb1.shtmldartmouth.edu/~smg6/pics_tb2.shtml
I could use some cash for a non-banjo project, so I'll offer these up for a bit to see what happens...
I'd prefer to not ship: I'd want to meet up in-person, let you try out one or both, see which one speaks to you, and go from there. BUT, if you have a preference and are OK buying without touching or deciding between the two, I may consider shipping a single one as it arises.
***I will be down to Eastern PA and near Saratoga, NY at times. Willing to meet up and work with you.
Both are original and have the original tone hoop still. Full thickness (fatty!) and unmodified rims on both: I personally don't think they need tone rings at all, but you'd be all set to have one installed. Practically new Robin Smith necks on both: TB1 = straight grain maple neck with waverly tuners, TB2 = walnut neck with gotoh tuners. No issues whatsoever with either banjo except one: The TB1 has a pretty good scuff on the resonator, which is not structural at all but does go beyond the normal wear and tear of a 90 year old instrument. Robin does the best work I've ever seen. Gibson labels and FON numbers all intact and accounted for.
Ballpark pricing I figure to be
1929 TB1 = $3150, includes tweed 5-string hardcase, old-but-not-original tenor neck with what might be original tuners, tenor hardcase
1928 TB2 = $3675, includes tweed 5-string hardcase, original tenor neck with original tuners, tenor hardcase, and what I believe may even be the original head!
...with both individually appraised for much higher: Formal appraisal from Rob Smith included for either one.
For collectors: You want the TB2 since it's a more complete overall package, and it's also featured here: earnestbanjo.com/gibson_banjo_...47-71.htm
For players: Whichever one speaks to you the best
They are super light (4 pounds less than a 'normal' tone ringed banjo), sound great, and are all original. The TB2 is slightly louder than the TB1. I don't screw around with them, so their setup is solid. My seller rating rocks: I'll make sure you're a happy camper.
***You can only have one!! :-) I'm definitely keeping one of them for myself.
I had both done and thought that I would sell the one that I like less (in a walnut vs maple battle)...I really can't choose. I personally prefer the feel and sound of the TB1, but the TB2 is slightly 'better' with volume and ring. So since I can't choose, I'll let fate do it for me. I'm truly happy with either one. They both rock and have great bluegrass grit. They sound TERRIFIC in simple fiddle-and-banjo settings.
I think these are the best way to hold the history, have an authentic prewar Gibson, save your back, and they aren't too crazy to where you'd be afraid to really take 'em out and use them.

For Sale: Gibson Parts Banjo - $1,100 USD
Gibson Mastertone style 5-string banjo in excellent condition!
Beautiful one piece flamed curly maple neck, ebony fretboard with style -6 MOP inlay, pearloid peghead overlay with 'Gibson' script, two-way truss rod, genuine Gibson RB-100 resonator, one piece flange, 3-ply maple rim, 20-hole pre-war style flathead tone ring, 24 bracket notched tension hoop, dual coordinator rods, geared planetary tuners, 5th string capo spikes installed at 7 and 9, heavy-duty adjustable Presto style tailpiece.
I've made a few changes since some of these pics were taken. I swapped the un-plated tone ring for a nickel plated one, removed the wooden armrest cover (included if buyer wants it), added one additional resonator wall lug (bringing the total to four), and also installed a flip cover on the tailpiece.
This is a pro quality banjo that plays and sounds as good as banjos at 2-3x the price.
It's currently set-up with a new USA Remo head, and an 11/16" Snuffy Smith bridge. The action is low and fast with no shims or alterations. It will come shipped in a very nice tweed TKL archtop hard shell case.
Insured shipping is $50 in the lower 48 states. PayPal is accepted.
More pics and info are available upon request.
Reasonable offers considered.

Asking Price: $5,500
This banjo new lists for $8,340 on Stelling’s website. There is of course a wait time of several months for a new instrument, and I don’t believe they use burl walnut anymore, only straight-grain wood, so it would likely be a custom order for burl walnut.
Trades involving top quality, vintage OMEs will be considered.
For someone looking for one of Stelling's flagship banjos, it simply doesn't get much better than this.
All questions will be forwarded to the owner. Please allow 12-24 hours for a response.

For Sale: Gibson Kalamazoo Conversion to Pyramid 5-string - $1,775 USD
This banjo started as Kalamazoo tenor, serial number 219. The conversion was accomplished by Don Bryant and Clifford Seales, both well-known banjo craftsmen and Hangout members.
Don installed an Arnold Clayton pyramid reproduction tone ring on the Kalamazoo rim. Clifford did the handcut pearl and inlay work, installed the stainless steel frets and shaped the neck
to my specifications.
The final assembly and fitting of the Prucha hardware, heel fit, nut installation, spikes and final setup was done by Don. Don's bandmate, Ken Hooper, of Hooper Guitars, did the matching stain and finish work.
Ken's finish work has a character to it that conveys a vintage appearance, even though it is brand new.
The original appearance of the prewar rim and resonator is uncommonly good considering the age. The head is a previously unused pre-EPA Weatherking. The bridge is a David Wadworth zebra wood bridge
that sounds very good on this banjo.
Four Gotoh tuners, upgraded with grained ivoroid buttons are on the peghead. The fifth tuner is a straight shaft Waverly with a matching grained ivoroid button. The Keith tuners and strap appearing in some of
the pictures are NOT included.
The case is a Saga reproduction redline hard shell.
In addition to the outstanding tone and playability of this banjo it is remarkably light, maybe 10lbs. or less.
The original tenor neck, with tuners and the tenor case ARE included with the conversion 5-string banjo.
