For Sale: RK 35 / parts banjo - $565 USD

RK 35 maple neck and resonator. This is an "older' set, the fretboard is a very dark piece of rosewood, much prettier than the light brown rosewood currently being used. Maple resonator has some interesting grain in it. I used this neck and reso for several years, trying out various pots, tone rings, etc. Was put together in this configuration about 3 yrs ago, and I left it this way. Rim is one of the older un-turned, 3 ply rims that RK used to sell. Professionally turned for flange and flathead tone ring. Rim has had one coat of a light brown stain applied, long ago, but no finish. I will honestly admit, I do not know what make of tone ring is on it, but I believe it is an older Sullivan "basic" pre-war style 20 hole rings. Nice, heavy ring that sounds good. Could possibly be an actual RK tone ring. I have the truss rod cover somewhere....I'll try and find it and put it on. Hardware is a combination of RK and Golden Gate. Banjo sounds really nice. Deep, dry tone to it. Spikes at 7 & 9 I might be willing to tear this thing down and "part out" the neck and resonator, or pot......

Very well cared for OB-250 PLUS. This is a sweet sounding banjo that is well suited for the intermediate market. It is a huge amount of banjo for under a thousand dollars- I would say the best sounding banjo I have ever had the pleasure of playing for under a grand. There is a little fret wear down the neck but no buzzing. Very tight instrument. 5th string capo is already installed and very well at that. Hardware is all chrome plated vs. nickel so that means super easy maintenance and your banjo will always be nice and shiny with no need to polish. Money back if not satisfied. HSC included.

So, it is being sold as an original TB100 but set up with the 11" ring and Gibson 5 string neck fit to the pot by Robin Smith, comes with the 10" ring, original tenor neck and case. Has the original skin head. Great light weight banjo, sounds good and neck plays well

For Sale: For Sale: Recording King Madison OT25 Openback Banjo - $425 USD

This is the popular Madison Openback with maple body, 'scooped' rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlays, bone nut, 24 brackets around a Remo fiberskyn head, and planetary tuners. It has nickel plated armrest and dual adjustable coordinator rods. There is a fifth string capo spike at the 7th fret. I'm including a soft gig bag w/adjustable backpack straps. The banjo is in new condition, a year or so old, but with one slight cosmetic blemish that can be seen in the closeup photo of the peghead. This is a small (1/8") V shaped part of the 'Recording King" label missing. This is the way it arrived from the factory and it was so trivial that I ignored it. If the prospective buyer is concerned about it, it can be easily touched up so as to be virtually invisible. The Recording King OT-25 has been a great banjo for me, especially for the Old Time clawhammer playing I prefer. My reason for selling is that, lately, the instrument just sits there neglected since I've devoted myself full time to playing the fiddle.

For Sale: Vintage Kay Banjo - $301 USD

Collector’s item! This 1960's Kay is an open back 5-string banjo. It has 30 brackets/ hooks which allow you to tighten the Snuffy Smith head very easily and evenly. The banjo is in great shape overall. The black lacquer finish is lightly scratched here and there, but there are no cracks or splits; no severe gouges or dings. The chrome hoop and brackets are in very good shape and the tuning pegs all work smoothly and efficiently. Two of the tuning machine arms are slightly bent but could be straightened easily. The fret board has a very small chip at the upper end of the neck, and the 11th fret wire has a slight ding in it and just needs to be filed smooth. A couple of the upper frets need adjusting. I put a brand new bridge on it and it works quite well. Except for the new bridge and head, this banjo is all original. Kay was once a high volume company that produced and sold a lot of banjos. This one was made in Chicago in the early 1960's. The 30 bracket models, like this banjo, were higher end Kays. This banjo has good sound and has many an old time tune like Sourwood Mountain and Cripple Creek under its belt. Will consider any reasonable offer! :-)

HI, AND THANKS FOR LOOKING AT MY AD I HAVE HERE TODAY A CUSTOM MADE EXTRA LONG NECK "PETE SEEGER STYLE" 5 STRING BANJO USING A VEGA POT WITH A SPECIAL BRASS TONE RING, AND CUSTOM MADE LONG NECK. I BOUGHT THE VEGA POT ON EBAY, AND IT HAD THE BRASS TONE RING IN IT. I DON'T KNOW WHO MADE THE TONE RING, BUT IT IS A VERY GOOD UPGRADE FROM THE BRASS ROD THAT THESE POTS USUALLY HAVE, AND REALLY SOUNDS AMAZING. I BOUGHT THE LONG NECK ON EBAY TOO, AND DON'T KNOW WHO MADE IT, BUT WHOEVER BUILT IT DONE A VERY NICE JOB ON IT. THE NECK IS A LITTLE THICKER THAN THE AVERAGE NECK, AND WOULD BE GREAT FOR A PLAYER WITH BIG HANDS. IT HAD NEVER BEEN INSTALLED ON A POT, AND I MATED IT TO THE VEGA POT, AND PUT ONE OF MY CUSTOM BUILT SPILLWAY DAM BANJO BRIDGES ON IT, AND IT REALLY CAME TO LIFE. IF YOU WANT A LONG NECK BANJO LIKE NO ONE ELSE HAS, OR WILL EVER HAVE, THIS MAY BE THE ONE FOR YOU. IT WILL BE WELL PACKED, AND SHIPPED TO THE LOWER 48 STATES, INSURED, FOR A FLAT FEE OF $50

Perhaps the finest banjo of its type the SHERRY LYNN ebony banjo , I built it for David Emery in 2007. When David picked up this banjo it was all I could do to not reach out and say "No you can't have this one!" Even now although I am no longer carrying it with me to perform with on the riverboat, I am having the hardest time clicking on the 'post this add' button. This one is so very special, so elegant with a big, big voice. Please note this is an instrument that has been played professionally on riverboats for the past couple of years and so exhibits normal wear including minor scratching, dings and finish wear. Additional photos are available upon request. The banjo features: Gabon Ebony neck with Macassar ebony fingerboard, backstrap & peghead overlay and a maple centerstrip, peghead underlay & backstraps. Figured maple binding Fossil walrus nut Custom hand carved heel Custom "S" shaped "Frailing" scoop Hand made wood marquetry peghead & scoop inlay. This Exquisite Stelling Staghorn Banjo is being Offered from the JLS Banjos Collection, JLS Item #48. The Banjo is Gold Plated and has Gold Engraved Armrest & Tailpiece, a Beautiful Black Walnut Resonator, and Keith Tuners. I sent this banjo to Geoffrey Stelling to authenticate it and get his opinion about the banjo. He identified the banjo for me and wrote me back with the following information and assessment:“(The banjo’s) serial number is #973 which was sold thru Baltimore Bluegrass on 1-25-79. So it is definitely an original Stelling that was made in our shop in California in 1979. The gold plating, engraved arm rest and tail piece, and the Keith tuners were installed after the original sale.” Mr. Stelling goes on to say, “I hope you are selling it for a good price because today that banjo would cost about $7000 if discounted thru a dealer. The gold plating (by itself) adds $1000 to the value” Geoff Stelling set up the banjo and he adjusted the truss rod, changed out the head to the original Ludwig, and the bridge to the original. He said that “It is in very good condition. I played your Staghorn to make sure it sounded like a Stelling and it does. Best of luck selling this old beauty.” Special Holiday Offer: FREE SHIPPING in continental US
